Motorola has been rather quiet during the first two quarters of the year, but recently, after tons of rumors and leaks, the company has confirmed that it's been working on a new line-up of smartphones. There have been plenty of leaks and rumors surrounding these gadgets to give us a pretty rough idea on what we might expect, but now, it's official.

The Verizon-exclusive Motorola Droid line-up has been recently unveiled by the carrier, and as you might've guessed, it consists in three smartphones. Two of them are aimed at the high-end market, whereas the third one will have the task of competing with the HTC One Mini, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and a handful of other smartphones that are part from the same segment. But let's begin with the big ones.

Motorola Droid Ultra and MAXX Specs

Same as last year and the year before that, the new Motorola Droid line-up will deliver one flagship phone, and one variant of that particular top-tier device featuring a larger battery and minor improvements. These gadgets are the Droid Ultra and the MAXX.

Both handsets feature similar hardware specs, with a few exceptions. Both the Ultra and the MAXX pack a dual-core processor running at 1.7 GHz. It's still rather unclear what type of processors these gadgets might deliver, as some sources claim it's a Motorola X8 system chip, whereas other sources suggest that it's a Snapdragon S4 Pro.

But moving on, both the Ultra and MAXX also offer 2 GB of RAM, a 10 MP RGBC main camera complemented by a 2 MP secondary sensor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. They also feature a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 and a pixel density of 294 pixels per inch, and both devices are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass at the front, and Kevlar at the back. Both devices support Bluetooth Class 2 and Bluetooth 4.0 LE +EDR, and both gadgets are also splashproof, for what it's worth.

There are, however, certain dissimilarities. The Ultra features a 2,130 mAh battery promising up to 28 hours of usage and up to 13 days of standby time, it packs 16 GB of internal storage with no possibility of expansion, and it measures 7.2 mm in thickness while weighting 137 grams.

On the other hand, the MAXX packs a much larger, 3,500 mAh battery that is said to deliver up to 48 hours of usage or 25 days of standby time, 32 GB of built-in storage (once again, with no microSD card slot), and a slightly thicker profile measuring 8.5 mm. The MAXX is also a bit heavier, weighting 167 grams.

Motorola Droid Mini Specs

While the Ultra and the MAXX aim at the high-end market, the Droid Mini is –as its name suggests- a mid-range device. However, the specs are quite impressive to be honest, and for a mid-ranger, it seems like a high quality device.

For starters, just as the Ultra and the MAXX, the Mini is also covered in Corning Gorilla Glass and Kevlar, thus it's also splashproof and it looks much better than what you'd normally get from the majority of mid-range devices.

But the pleasant surprises keep on coming. Spec-wise, the Droid Mini offers nearly the same hardware specs as its siblings. It's powered by the same dual-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz, it features 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box, a 10 MP RGBC main camera complemented by a secondary 2 MP front-facing sensor, Bluetooth 4.0 LE +EDR support and a 2,000 mAh battery that promises up to 28 hours of usage or 14 days of standby time.

The only major difference between the Ultra and the Mini is that, while the former features a 5 inch display, the latter delivers a smaller, 4.3 inch panel. Nonetheless, the Mini delivers the same resolution of 720 x 1280.

Motorola Droid Ultra Family – Prices and Availability

I won't keep you in suspense. Assuming that you've decided on buying either one of these handsets, then you should know that all three devices are now available for pre-order on Verizon's official website. (You might be interested in the source link below)

Price-wise, the Motorola Droid Mini is evidently the most affordable device, and will set you back $99 on a new 2-year agreement. The Ultra is accompanied by a price tag of $199, and last but not least, the MAXX is being offered at the price of $299. Once again, these prices are paired up with an agreement.

As for when exactly you'll be able to pick up these smartphones, according to Verizon, all three new Droids will become available in stores starting with August 20.

Any thoughts on these gadgets? Would you be interested in buying either one of them?
