Many months ago tons of rumors concerning the idea that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will feature a flexible display have surfaced on the web. Unfortunately, this did not happen, but what we've learned during that period of time was that, both LG and Samsung are working diligently on creating flexible smartphone displays. Interestingly enough, we've learned that both tech giants have faced various difficulties in creating these flexible panels, and as such, their next flagships (the G2 and Note 3 respectively) will not be the ones to debut this type of technology.

Nevertheless, the tech moves forward and issues are always going to be solved, one way or another. In fact, new rumors have emerged earlier this week, indicating that LG might unveil a smartphone with a curved display sometime by the end of the year.

The most recent rumors suggest that the device in question will be called the "LG G Flex", and that it delivers similar hardware specifications as the LG G2, including a Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. Furthermore, the screen will supposedly measure 6 inches in diagonal.

One thing that we should point out, is that while the LG G Flex is said to feature a curved display, that won't make the smartphone itself (or the screen) malleable. The flexibility of the screen will only give the manufacturer the ability to create a curved device, but the handset itself will not be foldable in any way. Evidently, even if the screen itself would be flexible, there are many components in a smartphone that are not malleable.

As far as the unveiling of the device goes, there are two rumors that have surfaced roughly at the same time. One of them suggests that the LG G Flex will be unveiled as soon as next week. The other rumor indicates that the handset could be unveiled sometime in November. While I evidently hope for an earlier rather than later launch, chances are that the G Flex will not be ready for its time on-stange next week.

Would anyone be interested in this curved smartphone? Do you think many other manufacturers will adopt this design philosophy in the future?
