As some of you might have already learned during these past several months, both Samsung and LG have been in a very intense race, competing with each other in a quest to become the manufacturers who will deliver the first smartphone featuring a flexible display. Old rumors were suggesting that both the LG G2 and the Galaxy Note 3 will debut this type of technology, but that hasn't been the case and word on the street was that both companies have faced production issues with their panels.

Nevertheless, Samsung and LG have continued to push and improve on the concept, and last week we've received word that LG might announce the so-called "LG G Flex" sometime this week. Interestingly enough, according to the latest rumors, Samsung might do the same.

The Korean media has now started buzzing about Samsung's flexible display smartphone, dubbed the "Galaxy Round". Whether or not this is just a placeholder name, the Round is said to feature a flexible screen built with a plastic substrate instead of glass. As a result, the panel itself will be flexible, allowing the manufacturer to create a curved smartphone. Additionally, the compound is said to be more durable and cheaper to produce as well.

Additionally, the Galaxy Rumor is said to feature much of the same hardware specs as the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. These rumors go hand-in-hand with a few older ones which have suggested that Samsung will release multiple Galaxy Note 3 variants, one of which will be a more exclusive device featuring a flexible panel.

This might mean that the Galaxy Round will be a rather pricey smartphone, but on the other hand, if it will not be a true Note 3 variant and it will not support an S Pen, then the price will most likely go down.

Once again, word on the street is that Samsung will announce this particular handset sometime by the end of this week – the same timeframe in which LG is also rumored to reveal the G Flex. Which company will win the race? Only time will tell, but hopefully this is going to be an exciting week for mobile enthusiasts.
