Sony recently shook off the name of the Ericsson company by buying them out. Soon they will be just "Sony" and have some new smartphones to show for their purchase. One recent model is called the Sony Xperia S and is headed to the land of India. Some people are calling this smartphone an "iPhone killer". It sure has a super nice screen, that is for sure.

This smartphone goes by a few aliases. One is "Sony Ericsson Arc HD" and the other is "Sony Ericsson Xperia Nozomi". They are all referencing the same handset. The people at Sony are known for making high quality electronics and this smartphone looks like it also fits the bill. The features stick out like a sore thumb in some areas. The camera is high powered and so is the screen. The screen in particular is rather large and clear as well. The iPhone "retina display" has 326 pixels per inch ( PPI ) while the Sony Xperia S has 342 PPI. It may be possible to tell the difference in the higher clarity of the Sony over the Apple smartphone. The display can handle multitouch with up to ten fingers. It looks like you will have to lay the handset down to try that one. The 4.3 inch display is not using AMOLED, but regular LCD technology to provide the distinct viewing. There is no manual keyboard for this handset but it does come with all the regular acrobatic skills of a "top notch" handset.

The people of India are going to be enjoying 32 gigabytes of internal memory with the Xperia S. They will not be enjoying a flash card slot because Sony did not put one into this phone. That is a "deal breaker" for many users, but it may be forgiven seeing this smartphone is chock full of other desirable features. The memory is accompanied by one gigabyte of RAM and a speedy dual core processor. The Qualcomm MSM8260 Snapdragon is powering the menus and programs of this Sony smartphone. It runs at 1.5 gigahertz, which puts it near the "top of the heap" for velocity.

Indian users will be using an older version of Android in the Sony Xperia S. Gingerbread, version 2.3, is what users will be dealing with. There are plans for an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, which is the most modern version. Android is enjoying a popularity trend at the moment, thanks to its free price. Carriers around the world can not resist "free". They know they can attract more customers with lower prices, thanks to Google's mobile operating system. The bad news is that it is also subject to hack attacks that can bring malware into the smartphone. Smart users should download a suitable anti-malware program for protection. The Android operating system comes with a Webkit browser that is able to handle Adobe flash files. This will give the user a more enjoyable internet experience from the great display of this smartphone.

All the wireless features that a power smartphone user could want are included in the Sony Xperia S. NFC, DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct and the handset can also be used as a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Indian user may find that the battery could use a boost in size. The camera can take photos with a whopping 12 megapixels of power. It is only 1750 mAh and will certainly need recharging frequently if a lot of photos are taken or many videos are watched. Otherwise, it will last for eight hours of talk time on 3G networks. The Xperia S is available now India. The price is going to be around the $600 dollar mark. Other Xperia models are also becoming available.
