As you should all be aware of by now Sony has already unveiled two of its upcoming flagship smartphones dubbed the Xperia Z and Xperia ZL, featuring 5-inch displays and resolutions of 1080p. Both the Z and the ZL should be able to compete with other similar high-end smartphones that have been either launched, or are getting ready for a release on the market. Nonetheless if the latest rumors are to be believed then Sony is also working on a Galaxy Note 2 competitor, a 6.44 inch beast that goes one step forward and takes the "phablet" concept to a higher (or larger) level.

Evidently, the picture above cannot be verified so there's no way to tell whether or not Sony is actually working on such a device, but this is not the first time the blogosphere has been taken by surprise by rumors of this nature. Back in late-2012 there have been a few reports claiming that Sony is working on a smartphone that will feature a display larger than 6 inches, and the picture seems to confirm those initial claims.

We've seen some pretty large smartphones making their way towards the market lately, such as the Huawei Ascend Mate whose display measures 6.1-inch in diagonal, so it wouldn't be too out of the ordinary if Sony would top that. Samsung is also expected to release the Galaxy Note 3 later in the year and although nothing has been confirmed, certain rumors have pointed out that the handset in question will boast a 6.3 inch display.

All in all, take this information regarding the 6.44 inch Sony phablet with a grain of salt, at least until new data shows up on the radars. Hopefully with the Mobile World Congress closing in on us, we'll get to find out more about this fabled device and whether or not it actually exists.
