    Hi,

We did a bankruptcy back in the late 90's due to medical bills, etc.. I am wanting to get a wireless internet card (EVDO/Edge type) for my laptop. I doubt that Sprint or Verizon will approve me when they do a credit check, even though I have a good income now & and am much better off financially. Do I have any options?

    1) I can get my own wireless card on Ebay. Do you think Sprint or Verizon would give me a pay by the month plan if I have my own hardware?

    2) Could I use a prepaid Sim card and try Cingular or T-mobile and recharge the card as I go? I understand a Sim card will go inside some wireless cards? Or will this work for a data only connection?

    3) If I had no other choice, I could pay Verizon up front for a year of service.

Even if I had good credit, I don't know if I would want to get into Sprint's 2 year contract (at $60 a month) or Verizons 1 year contract (at $80 a month). Would appreciate any advice.

    Biscuit

It's not that the forum's dead, you posted on a Sunday afternoon, which is typically a slower time for forum activity. Now you're back in the middle of a monday (work and school time for most folks). Also, you've presented a tough question that nobody has the perfect answer for. I almost replied yesterday but I knew my answer would be pretty vague and general (also not one you'd particularly like to hear), and I try to avoid answering questions unless I really know the answer.

But, here's the vague and general answer you wanted: Take your pick from whatever provider you want to go with. Just because you have bad credit doesn't mean they will flat-out turn you down, but you should be prepared to pay a hefty security deposit. A friend of mine went to Cingular and they did a credit check, smiled and said, "We'll be more than happy to sign you up with a new contract, but first we need a (can't remember if it was $400 or $500) deposit to secure the account." You won't be turned down for service by any carrier as long as you're willing to pay their security deposit. With a bankruptcy on your record, I'm pretty sure a security deposit is your only option, but keep checking back to see if anyone else can enlighten us all.

...not too bad for a Monday afternoon.

You will have a tougher time getting the wireless internet service than getting a regular cingular account. They can require a deposit up to $1000 if you have really bad credit. I have the Cingular Edge card and it it is great but a little pricey .... $93.00 per month.

go buy a wireless usb from coles or woolies or shopping center, like telstra or optus or vodaphone ect' and you can use it as a prepaid internet and you just recharge like a mobile phone.
