I am a journalist and often depend on recording my phone calls with my subjects so I can retrace the conversation and pull out awesome quotes.

I am hoping someone can identify the cell phone recorder setup Liam Neeson used in the new movie "Taken" just as his daughter was "taken." I saw "Sony" on the speaker device - can anyone identify it? Is anyone familiar with the cords required?

His setup is exactly what I have been looking for! I have been using a small cord that connects to my digital recorder and has an earpiece on the other end that picks up the conversation, but a direct line (like Liam's) and that gray speakerphone box or whatever it is (again, like Liam's) would be even better.

I have researched it since I got the screener of the movie back in December.

Its Sony speaker. you can find on Amazon
    older model Olympus recorder.
the phone is a Nokia dont know the exact model.

what It shows in the movie is fiction I believe.... you cant find a wire that goes from the cell phone to the recorder.

now I have not messed around with the features of the particular sell phone that he is using, maybe it does. maybe there is a setting...

now I can tell you how to make one using a wired-ear peace and Olympus recorder....

ever since I saw it I've been wanting it

I've actually done the same thing with my computer right now...if your phone has a 3.5mm (standard headphone-type jack) plug for headset duties, it's rather easy.

I took the 3.5mm cable, ran it from the phone to the microphone input on my computer's sound card, then double clicked the little speaker icon in the bottom right of the taskbar, near the clock. (This is all on Windows XP, by the way, I haven't tried this in Vista) I made sure the slider labeled Line-In was maxed out, so that whatever sound comes in to the computer (the phone call), is played through the computer speakers.
Then, if you want to record it, use any audio editing program (I recommend Audacity [Google it]), find how to record audio (in Audacity it's as simple as clicking the record button), and off you go.
Plus, with my phone, it still lets me talk through the phone microphone. Your mileage may vary with any of these things.

(Phone model is a Motorola ZN5, by the way.)

They have this on verizon phones. Unfortunately, mine only records the person on the other end and not me. Try and call someone with the current phone you have. Then press the soft button or button thats for options. scroll down and see if there is a record button to activate. to stop recording, follow same procedure and then press stop record.

to listen to the conversation, go to music & tones then scroll down to my sounds. wala!

    Agent_Hidel doesn't know what he's talking about!

The Sony Speaker in the film Taken is Model #SRS-T88 - Sony Compact Portable Speaker

    It costs approximately $90

    Good luck!

Glenn K- Do you know how to pull the recordings off of the Verizon phone? I cannot find anyone that knows, including Verizon workers.

    Thanks!
