I have been watching the pre-paid market recently, as I'm sure many people have. Metro PCS recently dropped prices about 10 dollars a month for their plans, probably due to Boost chaging 50 with no taxes or fees for iDen.
Well there is now another player, Tracphone, to be in the midst of all of this. They branded it Straightalk, and it looks to be parterned with Wal-Mart because on their webside you get directed to Wal-Mart.com when you click on phones.
Welcome To Straight Talk
The company was actually just announced and began offical service 7/30/09 according to Wikipedia:
"Straight Talk is one of TracFone's newest brands and as of 7/30/2009 provides customers with two different value based 30-day rate plans. Straight Talk is an MVNO that uses Verizon's CDMA 1XRTT wireless network which was introduced in 2001 and is said to deliver between 40 and 60 kbs (kilobits per second) to customers[7]. Straight Talk's coverage is limited in certain areas (most of Kansas, Nebraska, Nevada, Mississippi and western Texas)[8] but provides good coverage in the major metro areas. Only three phones are available for use with Straight Talk: The LG 200CM, Motorola W385, and Motorola RAZR V3a"
Basically, you can get 1000 minutes and 1000 text msg's for 30 bucks a month, or you get unlimited both for 45. Now this is on Verizon's network, so its kind of like haveing Metro PCS with Nationwide covereage, and not having to pay for the roaming when your away from a major city.
Its crazy, but I can not wait to see what happens next, when all of these big companies have an unlimited minutes plan for 50 buck, or less a month with out a contact!

Re: New Cellphone Serivce thru Tracphone!!
I currently use the Straight Talk service and it really is great! The fact that they are running on Verizon's network makes all the difference. I read they got the JD Power & Associates award for best prepaid network.
The price and best nationwide network combination makes this an unbeatable option. No way I'm using anything else again.

Re: New Cellphone Serivce thru Tracphone!!
Thanks,
I just went with Straight Talk too having waiting until I could read some feedback like yours. Since I am already on Verizon, I wanted to stay with them, and of course, keep same number, and given the fact I was on auto debit plan, it made little difference to me to switch to pre-paid plan, especially when I saw I was paying over a $100. for 1400 plan, it made no sense when I could get unlimited for $45.00, a no brainer.
Now what I am looking forward to is getting Android which is also now offered on Verizon network and hopefully if what I heard is correct, will work with Straight Talk, anyone hear anything on this? I was waiting on Android, but I took cheap phone in the interim through Straight Talk while I search for compatible phone like Android. I know iPhone will not work as it is GSM only, then I found a soon to be released 1Phone, not iPhone, but one, and it looks just like iPhone, but is dual SIM, plus multi band where you can use WiFi, WiMax and new COIP dial tone on cell phone technology, an exclusive.
Combining Straight Talk with COIP is the perfect solution for me, so has anyone else researched if any other phones can be used with Straight Talk plan? Saving money is what it is all about these days.Last edited by VOIP-COIP.com; 11-08-2009 at 12:17 PM.

Re: New Cellphone Serivce thru Tracphone!!
I own a Straight Talk for a short period of time, but first I read comments and blogs on different posts. I went to Walmart and also made my search and ask questions. I have save just by switching to a non-contract company, no hidden surprises and no bills. Just add minutes with a plan that fits you. I have the $30 a month with 1000 min. talk, text and 30mb of data, also free 411 calls that I have use like is going out of style. Of course FREE and I am always lost. Try switching and just see the difference.
