i dont want to get a smart phone really
i dont want texts coming in wasting money
if i send an sms to myself and i dont open it on a virgin phone im still deducted 15 cents?
someone sent 6 spam messages-im confused
it says or shows the number but says or has a download option
this is too bothersome

I'm pretty sure that no matter what service you are on, if you receive a text message and you are not on a text plan, then you will be charged whether you open it or not (they have no way to know if you open something, just that you received it).
You can call your service provider and have them turn off texting completely, so you won't be charged in the future.

That is what I am thinking too, but really it makes me wonder why would you even send yourself a text? I can understand reminders but with the technology we have now why waste a text? I have unlimited texting on my account for this very reason and if I really need a reminder I can email myself (it is free) or write on a pen and paper, old fashion but it still works.
