I've had my phone for about a year now, give or take. Here lately, it's been turning itself off randomly, as if it went dead. However, when I turn it back on, it usually comes back on with a full charge. What could be causing this? Is it just time for a new phone?

Can you contact the manufacturer? I would say perhaps it just needs to be updated, or it is just getting old. Without knowing the specifics of the phone, it would be impossible to tell definitively what might be wrong.

I probably could contact the manufacturer, but I doubt it's still under warranty. I gave up on it last night, broke down and bought a new phone. This one is another Samsung, but it's an updated version of the old one. Hopefully I don't have the same problems out of it a year down the line!

I have never seen this happen with a full charge when it comes back. I know I had an issue with my old Infuse that did similar but I figured something was draining the battery. I could take it off the charger before I leave for work in the morning and within 1-2 hours at best it was dead. It ended up being an app that I barely used and forgot was even installed.

Susan, did you by chance ever get your phone wet? I ask because my hubby had a phone that he dropped in the river while fishing last summer. We tried the rice trick and it worked like a charm, but a couple months later, it started doing the same thing. It would be almost fully charged and just turn itself off at odd times. Eventually we just had to replace the phone.

Weird. Are you using it a lot prior to it turning off?
Does the production of too many useful things results in too many useless people?

Actually, now that you mention it, I did drop it in a sink full of dishwater about 3 or 4 months ago. I took it apart and let it sit in dry rice overnight, then it came back on the next day, so I thought everything was okay. If that's the problem, why would it take so long to manifest?
