Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Turn Off Connectivity Features When Unused:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when they are not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- On the home screen, drag the Status bar down
- Tap the tiles associated with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location to disable these features
- Access the phones Settings menu
- For additional GPS options, tap Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To turn off Hotspot, first go back to Settings
- Next, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap the switch to turn off Tethering & Mobile Hotspot
Use 2G Networks:
NOTE: If you dont have access to a wall socket or power bank and your phone runs low on battery or you wish to conserve battery life, you can temporarily switch to 2G connectivity to improve battery performance until the next recharge.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Tap to use 2G connectivity
Lower Screen Timeout Duration and Brightness:
- Access Settings
- Under Device, tap Display
- If necessary, turn off Adaptive brightness
- Tap Brightness level and drag the slider to the left to decrease screen luminosity
- Return to the Display menu and tap Sleep
- Select a lower timeout value, such as 15 seconds or 30 seconds
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By reducing the amount of data being synced by your accounts / applications, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Access Settings
- Under Personal, tap Accounts
- Tap an account type and select the desired account
- Clear the check boxes associated with the sync options you want to disable
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party applications can affect battery performance even when you dont use them, because certain apps run regular background processes. As such, by turning off or removing unused third party apps, you might be able to improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Under Device, tap Apps
- Access the Downloaded tab
- Select the desired application
- Tap Disable / Force stop to turn off the app
- If you wish to remove the app, tap Uninstall > OK
NOTE: Recent tests have shown that the Facebook and Facebook Messenger apps have a great negative impact on battery life. If possible, its recommended to uninstall these apps and use Facebook Lite instead.
Keep the Firmware Updated:
NOTE: Sometimes, software updates can include battery life improvements. As such, its recommended to keep your phone up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Access the phones Settings menu
- Scroll down to System
- Tap About phone
- Tap System updates and if necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates
