Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Access “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Turn on “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options, and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “30 seconds”

Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth when unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down twice from the home screen
  2. Tap the tiles associated with “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” to disable these features
  3. Open “Settings” for additional GPS options, and go to “Location”
  4. Tap “Mode” > “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch to OFF

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party applications can perform regular background processes, and thus they can affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from your phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu above
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force stop” to disable it
  5. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall” instead

NOTE: You can also uninstall applications by opening the “Apps” drawer, and then dragging the app shortcut and dropping it on top of the “Uninstall” option at the top.

Change Sync Options:

NOTE: By changing the sync options of your accounts / apps to minimize sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select an account
  4. Disable the desired / available sync options

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply the available update. NOTE: This process will require a reboot
