Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the Apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Turn on Battery saver
Turn Off Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Hotspot when these features are not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home scree using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick tiles to disable these options
- For additional GPS (Location) options, first go to Settings
- Then tap Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi hotspot, return to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the features switch to OFF
Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts and applications to minimize the amount of data synced, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account and disable the desired sync options
Lower Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Go to Settings for more options
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 or 30 seconds
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes, and as such they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in used. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and ensure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top of the screen
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop to disable the app, or tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
NOTE: You can also uninstall apps from the phone by going to the apps drawer and dragging > dropping the apps shortcut above the Uninstall section at the top of the screen.
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it. NOTE: This process will require a reboot
