Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and turn on Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and disable Adaptive brightness if necessary
- Tap Brightness level
- Drag the slider to the left to decrease luminosity
- Go back to Display and tap Sleep
- Select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Turn Off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS:
NOTE: By turning off the phones connectivity features when they are unused, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location tiles to turn these features OFF
- For more Location (GPS) settings, go to Settings and tap Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & networks
- Turn off Tethering & Mobile Hotspot
Use 2G Connectivity:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Third party apps can perform regular background processes and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Go to Downloaded and select the desired app
- Tap Force Stop / Disable to turn the app OFF
- Tap Uninstall > OK to remove the app from the phone
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your accounts / apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an account type
- Select an account and clear the check boxes next to the sync options you want to disable
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if updates are available:
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply updates. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
