Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- From the quick toggle area, drag the brightness slider towards the left
- For additional options, open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- For more options, go to Settings
- Tap Location (GPS) > Mode and select Battery saving
- For additional Hotspot options, return to Settings
- Then tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Go to Mobile Networks and tap Preferred network type
- Select 2G to confirm
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and can potentially affect battery life when not actively in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All Apps is checked in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force Stop
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another method of removing an app is to drag the apps shortcut from the apps drawer and drop it over the Uninstall section at the top of the home screen (only visible when dragging app shortcuts)
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts sync options to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select the desired account to change its sync options
- Enable or disable the available sync options to reduce sync
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for new updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the available update. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
