Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Display and enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By changing your phones connectivity features when unused, including Hotspot, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- For GPS options, go to Settings > Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & mobile hotspot to disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Preferred networks
- Access Preferred network type and enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your apps/ accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select the desired account
- Change the available sync options to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and select All Apps in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- Tap Force stop to disable the app
- Alternatively, tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
NOTE: Another method of removing an app is to drag its shortcut from the apps drawer and drop it over the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: Software updates can improve battery life, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
