Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings” for more options
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Turn Unused Connectivity Features OFF:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when they are not actively in use, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. From the quick toggle area, tap “Location”, “Wi-Fi” and “Bluetooth” to turn the features OFF
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Access “Location” for more GPS settings, then tap “Mode” > “Battery saving”
  5. To turn OFF Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch OFF

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Select “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes, which can potentially affect battery life even when not in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: Alternatively, you can uninstall an app by dragging its shortcut from the apps drawer and dropping it over the “Uninstall” section at the top of the screen (visible only when dragging app shortcuts).

Change Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Go to “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and disable the desired sync options

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times.

  1. Go to “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
