Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity options when not in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- Go to Settings for more options
- Tap Location for GPS options
- Then tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type and enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus, by disabling or removing unused third party apps usage, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app OFF, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: A different method to remove an app is to access the apps drawer, and drag & drop the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top. The option is available only when dragging an app shortcut.
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account and disable the desired sync settings
Keep the OS Up to Date:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Access System updates
- Check if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
