Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Battery” > “Menu” > “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To turn Hotspot Off, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and turn the feature Off

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery life and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “more” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Turn ON “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower value such as “15 seconds”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account and turn the desired sync options Off

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you may improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  2. Tap “Apps”
  3. If necessary, select “All Apps” in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Force Stop”
  5. To remove the app tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: You can also remove an app by dragging its shortcut and dropping it on top of the “Uninstall” section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts).

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if a new update is available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process requires at least one reboot)
