Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Go to Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Enable or disable adaptive brightness
- For timeout settings, tap Sleep and select a lower value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity options when not in use, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- Return to Settings and tap Location for additional GPS options
- Tap Mode and select Battery saving
- For Hotspot options, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Then tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch Off
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks and access Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account and turn the desired sync options Off to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes, which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and ensure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app Off, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS Updates include improvements to battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Go to System updates
- Verify if a new update is available and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s). NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
