Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  5. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when unused, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Bluetooth”, “Location” and “Wi-Fi” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings”
  4. Access “Location” for more GPS options
  5. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  6. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the feature Off

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Turn On “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the “Status” bar down using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Scroll to “Device”
  5. Tap “Display” and enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select an account to change its sync settings

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “Apps” under “Device”
  3. Tap “All apps”
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Disable” / “Force Stop”
  6. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
