Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable these options
  3. Next open “Settings” and go to “Location” for more GPS options
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and turn the feature Off

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: if your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks” > “Preferred network type”
  4. Enable “2G”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen
  2. Drag the “Brightness” slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus by disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you may be able to improve battery life.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired application
  5. Tap “Force Stop” / “Disable” to turn the app off
  6. Tap “Uninstall” to remove the app

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account type
  5. Tap the desired account and change the available sync options to reduce sync

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if new updates are available for download
  4. If applicable follow the on-screen steps to apply updates. NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
