Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Then tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” ON or OFF
  6. For timeout settings, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”

Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “Battery” under “Device”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Next tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  4. To disable Hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  5. Tap “Tethering & Portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: If your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when the apps are not in use. As such you can remove or disable unused third-party apps to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” > “All apps”
  4. Select the desired app
  5. Tap “Disable” / “Force Stop” to confirm
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: You can change your accounts’ settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type
  4. Tap the account whose settings you want to change to reduce sync

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Verify if a new update is available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: this will require at least one reboot)
