Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Access Device
- Go to Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the status bar down on the home screen
- From the notification/quick toggle area, drag the brightness slider toward the left
- For more options go to Settings
- Access Display and enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For screen timeout options go to Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not actively in use including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- From the quick toggle area, tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth toggle to disable these features
- For more options go to Settings
- Access Location and tap Mode
- Enable Battery saving
- For hotspot options, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the features OFF
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve the phones battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your accounts settings to reduce sync you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Go to Personal and tap Accounts
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available sync settings to reduce sync as desired
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phones battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Tap Apps
- Make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu
- Select the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Access System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
