Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when not actively in use including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth you can avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the Location, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi quick toggles to turn the features OFF
- Open Settings for more options
- Access Location for GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- For more options return to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Disable Tethering & portable hotspot
Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
- For additional options, open Settings
- Scroll to and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options tap Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve the battery until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Access Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type and enable 2G
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the devices battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third-party apps you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Access Apps and make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- To disable the app, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the device, tap Uninstall
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by changing your accounts settings to reduce sync.
- Launch Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the desired settings to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Access About phone > System updates
- Verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
