Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Go to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left
- For more options go to Settings
- Tap Display and optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout settings, tap Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Location, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Tap the Wi-Fi Bluetooth and Location quick toggles to disable the features
- Open Settings and go to Location for GPS options
- Tap Mode > Battery saving
- Go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot
- Turn the feature Off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switch to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- GO to Preferred network type and enable 2G
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the devices battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By removing or disabling the phones connectivity features when not actively in use, you can potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Access Apps
- Go to All apps and select the desired app
- Tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove an app from the device, tap Uninstall
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life.
- Open Settings
- Access Accounts
- Select an account type and an account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync as desired
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if new updates are available
- If available, follow the prompts to download and apply the updates (note that the update process will require at least one reboot)
