Before you flash your device or install custom ROMs on it, it’s highly recommended that you back-up your data. This step-by-step tutorial will teach you how to back-up and restore your Android device via the CWM Recovery and as pointed out before, you should back-up your data prior to installing any custom ROMs on it.

    1. In order to perform the backup and restore, your device has to be rooted. You can check out our rooting tutorials to see if there’s one available for your Android device.
    2. Go to the Google Play Store, download ROM manager and install the app on your device.
    3. Open the app and select Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery -> select Back up Current ROM and follow the on-screen prompts.
    4. Note: In case your smartphone is not listed in the ClockWorkMod Recovery, don’t select a different device as it may brick your phone!
    5. When your device reboots, the backup will be completed.
    6. If your handset is backed-up and the installation of a Custom ROM fails, you can restore the firmware if you open the Backup App and select Manage and Restore Backup -> Restore.
    7. After you reboot your device, it will have its old operating system.
    8. And that’s it! Your device should now be backed-up.
