You can use HTC Backup to do daily backups to the cloud, after which you can easily restore your settings and content whenever you need it, such as after factory resetting your smartphone, or even buying a new device.

NOTE: HTC Backup uses Google Drive storage to back up your data, and can store personalized settings, accounts and passwords, apps and settings.

Backing Up the HTC One max to Google Drive:

You can enable HTC Backup to perform a daily backup of your phone via Wi-Fi. This option can be enabled by selecting "Back up phone daily over Wi-Fi" from the Settings menu.

  1. Using two fingers, swipe the status bar down
  2. Tap "Settings" and tap "Backup & reset"
  3. Tap "Backup account" > "HTC Account"
  4. Sign in with your HTC Account, Google or Facebook account
  5. On the "Cloud storage" screen, select the "Google Drive" option that has your Google Account name under it
  6. Tap "OK"
  7. In case you have used an HTC or Facebook account, sign in with your Google Account to access Google Drive
  8. If prompted, tap "OK" to allow HTC Backup to access Google Drive
  9. To perform a daily backup, set the "Automatic backup" switch to "On". To perform a manual backup, tap "Back up now"

Restoring Your Backup From Google Drive:

If you wish to restore your backup after a factory reset:

  1. Once you turn on your HTC device for the first time after the factory reset, select to restore content and tap "Restore from HTC Backup"
  2. Sign in using the same account that you have used for the backups
  3. In the backup history screen, select the desired backup and tap "Next"
  4. Assuming that you have used a Facebook or HTC Account to backup the data on your phone, log in with your Google Account to access Google Drive
  5. If / when prompted, allow HTC Backup to access Google Drive
  6. After the data and settings have been restored, tap "Next"

Backing Up Data Locally

Backing Up Your Contacts:

  1. Open the "People" application
  2. Go to the "People" tab, and tap the "Menu" icon depicting three vertical dots
  3. Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts" > "Export to phone storage", or "Export to SD card"
  4. Select an account or type of contacts to export
  5. If you wish to protect your data you can set a password for the backup by tapping "Yes". Alternatively, tap "No" to skip this step
  6. Tap "OK"

Restoring Contacts:

  1. Access the "People" app and go to the "People" tab
  2. Tap "Menu" > "Manage contacts"
  3. Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Import from phone storage" or "Import from SD card"
  4. If you have multiple accounts, select the type for the imported contacts
  5. If there are multiple backups available, select the one that you wish to import and tap "OK"
  6. If necessary, enter the backup password, and tap "OK"

Backing Up Your Text Messages:

  1. Open the "Messages" application
  2. Tap "Menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS" > "Back Up" > "Back up SMS"
  3. Optionally, set a password for your backup, or alternatively, select "Do not password protect this backup"
  4. Type in a name for the backup file and tap "OK"

Backing Up Your Text Messages via Email:

  1. Access the "Messages" app
  2. Tap "Menu" while on the messages screen, and tap "Back up / Restore SMS"
  3. Tap "Back up" > "Back up SMS via mail"
  4. Tap "Do not password protect this backup", or alternatively, choose to protect the backup with a password
  5. Type in your email address, compose the email and send it

Restoring Text Messages:

  1. Open the "Messages" app and tap "menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS" > "Restore"
  2. Select how you wish to restore the messages and tap "Next"
  3. Select the backup to import
  4. If necessary, enter the password for the backup. If the file is not password protected, tap "This backup file is not password protected"
  5. Tap "OK"

NOTE: to restore text messages that have been backed up via email, open the email containing the backup file attachment, download the attachment and then tap it to import.

Backing Up Your Personal Dictionary:

  1. Access the "Settings" menu by dragging the status bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Language & keyboard"
  3. Tap "HTC Sense Input" > "Personal dictionary"
  4. Tap "Menu" > "Back up to storage" or "Back up to email"
  5. Tap "OK" when prompted

Importing Your Personal Dictionary:

  1. Access the "Settings" menu and tap "Language & keyboard"
  2. Tap "HTC Sense Input"
  3. Tap "Personal dictionary" > "Menu" > "Restore from storage"
  4. Tap "OK" when prompted

Backing Up and Restoring Tasks:

  1. Access the list of tasks that you wish to back up
  2. Tap "Menu" > "Import / Export"
  3. Tap "Export to SD card" to back up the tasks, or "Import from SD card" to restore them
