Backing Up Data
Backing Up Applications:
- Tap the "Apps" icon while viewing a home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Go to "Backup and reset". NOTE: in order to back up your apps, you are required to be logged in to your Google account. To add an account, tap "HTC account" > "Add account" and follow the on-screen steps
- If necessary, mark the "Backup my data" and "Backup account" check boxes
Backing Up Contacts:
- Launch the "People" application
- Go to the "People" tab
- Tap the "Menu" icon and select "Manage contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Export to phone storage"
- Select an account if required and tap "OK"
Backing Up Media Files using a Windows Computer or Mac:
- Connect the HTC One E8 to your computer via USB
- If you're running on a Windows computer, an AutoPlay window should pop-up. From there, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer". (NOTE: if you're using a Mac, the One E8 virtual drive icon will appear on the desktop)
- Navigate to your phone's storage and locate the files that you wish to back up
- Copy the files, and navigate to the desired backup location on your computer's hard drive
- Past the files on your PC's HDD
- Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray, and click "Eject". NOTE: If you're using a Mac, drag the One E8 virtual drive icon in the "Trash / Eject" bin
- You can now safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer
Restoring Data
Restoring Applications:
- Tap the "Apps" icon while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Access "Accounts & sync"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Sync all"
Restoring Contacts from Storage:
- Open the "People" application and go to the "People" tab
- Press the "Menu" icon and tap "Manage contacts"
- Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Import from phone storage"
- Select the type of account you wish to use for restoring your contacts
Restoring Media Files from a Windows or Mac Computer:
- Use the USB cable to establish a connection between your smartphone and computer
- From the AutoPlay window that should appear if you're using a Windows computer, click "open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- If you're using a Mac, double-click the virtual drive icon associated with the HTC One E8, located on the desktop
- Navigate to where the media files have been backed up on the computer
- Copy the files, and transfer them on your phone's storage
- After the transfer is done, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon from the system tray, followed by "Eject". On a Mac computer, drag the virtual drive icon on top of the "Trash / Eject" icon
- It's now safe to disconnect your smartphone from your computer
