WARNING! By mastering resetting your phone, all data located on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes downloaded content, apps, contacts, media files etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected. Before master resetting the device, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data. In addition, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up and restore data via HTC Backup or locally.

Master Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Backup & reset”
  5. Enable or disable “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data”
  6. Tap “Reset phone”
  7. In case your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
  8. Optionally, choose whether or not to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option all data located on the SD Card will be deleted
  9. Tap “OK” at the “Warning” pop-up
  10. Tap “OK” again to confirm and reset your device

Master Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, you can try resetting the phone via the System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. After the phone vibrates, release “Power”
  4. When you see the “hTC download mode” menu, release “Volume down”
  5. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Highlight “Boot to recovery mode” and press “Power”
  8. At the exclamation mark, press and hold “Power” and then press and release “Volume Up”
  9. Once in the Android System Recovery screen, release all buttons
  10. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  11. Press “Power”
  12. Once the phone resets, “Reboot system now” will be highlighted
  13. Press “Power”

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you factory reset your device, it’s recommended to verify if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Phone”
  4. Tap “About” > “Software information”
  5. Verify if a new OS version is available and, if necessary, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply it
