Data Back Up
Backing Up Apps:
- Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
- Access "Settings" and swipe to "Backup and reset"
- In order to back up apps, you need to be logged in to a Google account. To add one tap "HTC Account" > "Add account"
- If necessary, mark the check boxes next to "Backup my data" and "Backup accounts"
Backing Up Contacts:
- Launch the "People" app
- Go to the "People" tab and press "Menu"
- Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
- Tap "Export to phone storage"
- Select an account if necessary and tap "OK"
Backing Up Media Files on a Mac or Windows Computer:
- Connect the HTC Desire 820 to your computer using the USB cable
- On a Windows PC in the AutoPlay window, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer". On a Mac, the phone's drive will appear on the desktop
- Access the phone's storage and go to the files you want to back up
- Copy the desired files and paste them on your computer's HDD
- Once the transfer is done, click "Safely Remove Hardware" (on Windows) from the system tray and "eject". On a Mac, drag the phone's storage icon from the desktop into the "Trash / Eject" bin
- It's now safe to disconnect your smartphone from the computer
Restoring Data
Restore App Data:
- Tap "Apps" from the home screen
- Tap "Settings" and go to "Accounts & sync"
- Press "Menu" and tap "Sync all"
Restore Contacts from Storage:
- Open the "People" application
- From the "People" tab, press "Menu"
- Tap "Manage contacts" > "Import / Export contacts"
- Tap "Import from phone storage"
- Select the type of account you want to use for restoring contacts
Restoring Media Files from a Computer:
- Connect the HTC Desire 820 to your Windows PC or Mac
- On a Windows PC, click to browse the phone's files and folders from the AutoPlay window. On a Mac, access the phone's storage drive from the desktop
- Open a separate explorer or file finder window, locate the backed up files on your computer's HDD
- Copy the files from the PC, and paste them on your smartphone's storage
- Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon located in the system tray and "Eject" the smartphone (on a Windows). If using a Mac, drag the phone's virtual drive and drop it in the "Trash Can" icon
- Safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer and you're all done
