Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably, or doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache and / or data.

WARNING! Clearing an app’s data will delete all your personal information stored within the app, including login and credit card information, high scores, save files, profiles etc. To avoid losing data, clear only the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps”
  4. Select the desired app and tap “Storage”
  5. Tap “Clear cache”
  6. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK” (read WARNING above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, runs out of storage inexplicably etc. and you’re considering factory resetting it, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the cache partition instead. Unlike a factory reset, clearing the cache partition will not delete personal data stored on the device’s internal memory.

  1. Make sure to turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Volume Down”
  3. Press and hold “Power” until the phone vibrates, then release it
  4. Once you gain access to “hTC download mode”, release “Volume down”
  5. From the menu, press “Volume Down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery Mode”
  8. Press “Power”
  9. From the Recovery menu, press “Volume down” to highlight “wipe cache partition”
  10. Press “Power” to confirm
  11. After the cache is wiped, make sure “reboot system now” is highlighted and press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache didn’t solve the issues, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the HTC 10.

Reboot in Safe Mode and Remove an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues on your phone and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled.

  1. On the home screen, press and hold “Power”
  2. In the “Phone Options” pop-up, tap and hold “Power off”
  3. At the “Reboot to safe mode” prompt, tap “Restart”
  4. Wait for the phone to reboot. Once done, it should show a “Safe Mode” watermark on the home screen
  5. To remove an app, open “Settings”
  6. Scroll to “Phone” and tap “Apps”
  7. Swipe to “Downloaded” and select the desired app
