WARNING! When you master reset your phone, all data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, apps, contacts, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.
NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data on the HTC 10 evo.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings and scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset and enable or disable Back up my data and Automatic restore
- Tap Reset phone
- Assuming that your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password o proceed
- Optionally you can decide to Erase SD Card too. WARNING: by enabling this option all data on the SD card will be deleted by the factory reset
- Tap OK to confirm
Factory Reset from Android Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can try and reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. You can access the menu by performing the following key combination:
- Make sure the phone is turned off
- Press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- When the phone vibrates, release Power
- At the hTC download menu, release Volume down too
- While in the download menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Boot to Recovery mode
- Press Power to confirm and wait for the HTC logo and No command screen to appear
- Press and hold Power and tap Volume down
- Once in the Android Recovery menu, release Power
- Navigate the menu by pressing Volume down repeatedly and highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to confirm the option
- Use the volume keys to highlight Yes delete all user data
- Press Power
- Once the reset is done, highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you have factory reset your device, its recommended to check if new OS updates are available for download.
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings and scroll to About
- Tap Software information
- Verify if a new software update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it. NOTE: the update process usually requires at least one reboot
