WARNING! When you master reset your phone, all data stored on the device’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, apps, contacts, downloaded content etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values. However, data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data on the HTC 10 evo.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings” and scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Backup & reset” and enable or disable “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
  4. Tap “Reset phone”
  5. Assuming that your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password o proceed
  6. Optionally you can decide to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING: by enabling this option all data on the SD card will be deleted by the factory reset
  7. Tap “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset from Android Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can try and reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu. You can access the menu by performing the following key combination:

  1. Make sure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. When the phone vibrates, release “Power”
  4. At the “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down” too
  5. While in the download menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery mode”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm and wait for the HTC logo and “No command” screen to appear
  9. Press and hold “Power” and tap “Volume down”
  10. Once in the “Android Recovery” menu, release “Power”
  11. Navigate the menu by pressing “Volume down” repeatedly and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  12. Press “Power” to confirm the option
  13. Use the volume keys to highlight “Yes – delete all user data”
  14. Press “Power”
  15. Once the reset is done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you have factory reset your device, it’s recommended to check if new OS updates are available for download.

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “About”
  3. Tap “Software information”
  4. Verify if a new software update is available, and if applicable follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it. NOTE: the update process usually requires at least one reboot
