WARNING! When you master reset your phone, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values, however, data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your device, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on how to restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Enable or disable “Automatic Restore” and “Back up my data”
  5. Tap “Reset phone”
  6. In case your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
  7. Optionally, you can select to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! If you enable this option, all data on the SD card will be deleted throughout the factory reset process
  8. Tap “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Make sure the phone is powered off
  2. Next, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. Once the phone vibrates, release “Power”
  4. Once you gain access to the “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down”
  5. In the download menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery mode”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm
  9. Once you gain access to the screen showing an HTC Logo and “No Command”, press and hold “Power”, then tap (and release) “Volume down”
  10. Once in the Android Recovery menu, release “Power”
  11. From the menu, press the volume keys to navigate to and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  12. Press “Power” to confirm
  13. Next, highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
  14. Once the master reset is complete, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power”

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you have factory reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new OS updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to and tap “About”
  4. Tap “Software information” and check if a new update is available
  5. Assuming that new updates are available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply them. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot. Save any unsaved work before proceeding
