Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably, or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the apps cache/data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all personal information stored within the app will be lost. This includes credit card and login information, high scores, settings, user profiles, save games etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Phone and tap Apps
- Select the desired app and tap Storage > Clear cache
- If clearing the cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK (check WARNING above)
Clear the Cache Partition:
NOTE: In case your phone crashes, freezes, or runs out of storage inexplicably and youre considering fixing the issues by factory resetting the device, alternatively, you can try clearing the phones cache partition. This can yield similar results to a factory reset without losing any personal data stored on the phone storage.
- Ensure the phone is powered OFF
- Press and hold Volume down and Power at the same time
- Once the phone vibrates, release Power
- In the hTC download menu, release Volume Down too
- From the menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to confirm the selected option
- At the HTC logo and No Command screen, press and hold Power then tap and release Volume Up
- Once in the Android Recovery screen, release Power
- Navigate the recovery menu by pressing Volume down repeatedly and highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to confirm
- After the cache partition is wiped, highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt solve the issue, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the phone instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If you have installed a third party app that causes issues and prevents you from removing it, you can try and uninstall the app from within Safe Mode. In this mode, all third party apps are disabled by default.
- While on the home screen, press and hold Power
- From the Power options pop-up, tap and hold Power off
- At the Reboot to Safe Mode prompt, tap Restart to confirm
- After the phone finishes restarting, a Safe Mode label should be shown in the lower-left corner of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, first open Settings
- Then scroll to Phone and tap Apps
- Access Downloaded
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall > OK to confirm
- To exit Safe Mode, simply press and hold Power and reboot your phone as you would do normally
