WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, all your personal data stored on the devices internal memory will be deleted, including ringtones and media files, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. In addition, settings will be restored to factory values but data stored on the SD and SIM cards will not be affected.
NOTE: You can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data on the device before the reset, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset
- Optionally, enable or disable Automatic restore and Back up my data
- Tap Reset phone
- If your phone is lock-screen protected, enter the PIN / password to proceed
- Optionally, choose whether to Erase SD Card too
- When ready, tap OK
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your device freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:
- First make sure the phone is turned Off
- Then, press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- Once the phone vibrates, release Power
- At the hTC download menu release volume down
- Press volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Boot to Recovery Mode using the volume rocker and press Power
- At the No Command screen, press and hold Power and Volume down
- Release the buttons once in the recovery menu
- Press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Wipe data / factory data reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power
- Once the phone is reset, highlight Reboot system now and press Power one last time
Check for Software Updates:
NOTE: Its recommended to check if new software updates are available after the factory reset is complete. To do this:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About
- Tap Software information
- Check if a new update is available, and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install the update(s). NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot
