Recently my company had a chance to catch up with John Cheer, CEO of Kyocera at the 2007 CTIA in Orlando. He presented a prototype phone with NFC technology (near field communication). This new format could soon replace cash and even bank cards... companies such as Visa, 7-11, and McDonald's are on their way to rolling out these NFC spots. As for security measures, the phones will include biometric scanners.
