V help changing sounds to ringtones

Hi - I'm new here and with the phone and also computer illiterate for the most part. Is there a way that I can take information from the sounds part of the phone and turn them into ringtones. I've found a great free ringtone site, but can't figure out how to get them from sounds to ringtones.
