WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be lost. This includes media files and ringtones, contacts, apps, downloaded content etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you reset your device, you can visit this thread for instructions on how to back up data, and this thread for a guide on restoring personal data. Keep in mind that a factory reset will not affect data stored on the SIM and SD cards.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to the “General” tab if necessary
  3. Tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Select or clear the check boxes associated with “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
  5. Tap “Backup account” and, if necessary, follow the on-screen steps to create a Google backup account
  6. Tap “Factory data reset” and review the warning messages
  7. Choose whether or not to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, the factory reset process will delete all data on the SD Card
  8. Tap “Reset phone” > “Next”
  9. Tap “Delete all” > “OK”

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If you are unable to factory reset your device from the Settings menu as described above, alternatively you can factory reset your phone from the Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as explained below.

  1. Make sure the device is powered off
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. When the “LG” logo appears, quickly release and re-hold “Power”
  4. When the “Factory data reset” screen appears, release all keys
  5. Press (and release) “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. When prompted to “Erase all user data and restore default settings”, press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you factory reset your device, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to the “General” tab
  3. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  4. Tap “Software info”
  5. Check if a new update is available, and if yes, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply it (NOTE: this process will require you to reboot your device)
