LG Rebel 4 does not retain MTP setting for USB Configuration

When I use settings\System\Developer Options\USB Configuration to select MTP I can transfer photos from phone to PC.

When the USB cable is disconnected from the phone, or the phone is turned off or restarted, the USB Configuration automatically changes back to PTP.

What can be done to keep the MTP setting?


UPDATE ---

When I tried the above initial steps today to change USB Configuration to MTP, the phone asked me if I wanted the change “Just once” or “Always” – naturally I set it to Always and it worked.

Why doesn’t that question come up every time I change USB Configuration?
