Motorola's new Webtop application for the Motorola Droid 4 is a move forward in combining the use of both cell phone and desktop. One can now browse or use web apps on a large screen in a full-version Firefox browser and can also create and share documents, spreadsheets, and presentations with online tools like Google Docs.

How to Connect the Webtop Application

Connect your smartphone to a Motorola Lapdock (sold separately) to automatically launch the webtop application. Connect your smartphone to an HDTV or monitor using the HD Dock, HD Station, or Adapter for webtop application, then choose the webtop application from the application menu. When you’re done using the webtop application, just disconnect your phone from the accessory.

How to Control the Webtop Application

There are different ways to navigate through the webtop application; both a phone view and a desktop view appear side-by-side when using the webtop application. To navigate the webtop application display:

In the “Phone” window, you can open your phone apps.
At the bottom of the screen, you’ll see “App Shortcuts”.
At the top right of the screen, you’ll see icons for “Status” and “Settings”.
For help in the webtop application, open “Settings > Help” at the top right of the screen.

How to Send A Page to the Phone

When you find an interesting web page in the webtop application, you can send it to your smartphone to view after undocking. In the Firefox browser, select “File > Send” to phone. If prompted to complete the action, select “Browser”. The web page opens in your smartphone browser.
