I know there are a lot of things posted about the V3c and how with S/w .03 obex and transfers via usb with Motorola Phone Tools got disabled. I now have the V3m (s/w NEWC_01.05.0A). It seems to be my understanding that since this includes the Trans-flash memory slot, that it is possible to transfer things like music and pictures from my PC to my phone and vice versa. I booted up motorola phone tools and plugged the phone in hoping it would be that easy. Of course not, the only options are synchronization, phonebook, calendar, text message and internet connection. No multimedia (which is what I think I need, but I've never actually used this program before.)

Now how do I do this. I tried to ask at the Verizon store last week when I was there, but all they kept saying was you have to buy the music essentials pack, $30. Well turns out I don't want to spend any money to get this to work. I have a usb cable, the most recent version of motorola phone tools, and I don't want to void my warranty by editing seems or anything. Can anybody help with this please?

Re: V3m to PC transfers (VZW)

As explained my Slandered (though not very well) in the other thread you started about the V3m, you need to change some settings. Here is a more concise and easier to follow set of instructions to enable the Multimedia Studio button in MPT for the Razr V3c (I can not promise at this time it will work for the V3m).

You need to first make sure you are updated as far as you can go. Then click on "Menu", go to "General Setup" and click the "Communications" tab. Click "Change Modem" and follow the instructions. When you get to the "detect driver" screen, put a check mark in the box next to "Do not automatically detect driver. Select from list." and click "Next".

Choose "Motorola CDMA" and scroll the list until you see "V3cm". Select this phone and click "Next". Then, simply click "Finish" and it will reload MPT. Your phone will be recognized and you will have access to the "Multimedia Studio" options.

That should resolve your MPT issues. Please note: this fix may only make the button show up on your MPT interface. It will not make the button work if you have firmware version .03 or higher.

As for the Trans-Flash card issue, my question seems to be the same as yours. I am not sure whether or not you can set ringtones from the memory card. I know that function is not available on most other Verizon phones with memory cards, so I can only assume that it will not work on the V3m.

I do know that you do not need the kit to put songs and pictures on your memory card. You simply need a card reader for your PC. The Trans-Flash card comes with an adaptor that gives it the form factor of an SD card, (Trans-Flash is also known as Micro-SD), which is a standard memory card format that will fit most card readers available on the market.

    Good luck.

Re: V3m to PC transfers (VZW)

Ok so I just followed your steps (which were actually understandable, unlike slandered's), and everything worked until the end. Even though you said it would appear, but not work, I wanted to make sure on the V3m. Well MPT just sits there initializing, and says mobile not connected. So now I can't use anything. Oh well so much for that.

Thanks for the info about the memory cards. Seems I might be getting a Trans Flash card tomorrow, and I have a printer here with media slots so I'll just use that to connect to my computer. I'll let you know if I can figure out the ringtone thing. Thanks for the help.

    EDIT

I could get into the multimedia studio screen, but everytime I tried to do something with the phone it said not able to communicate with the phone.

Sorry Lightning, but as I said, I can not guarantee that it would work for the V3m. It may be new enough that MPT does not yet support it. Wait a few weeks, then run Liveupdate again, there should be another update available for MPT.

Good luck with everything. Let me know about the Trans-Flash card, I am very interested in your results.

Just found the V3mm option in the CDMA phones list in MPT 4.21a. Give it a try and let me know if it works.

Then Verizon was quicker to disable OBEX on the V3m then they were on the V3c. Sorry Lightning Guy.

Yeah I really think they took the latest V3c software and modified that to include the music stuff and trans flash stuff, therefore everything that didn't work on the V3c, doesn't work with the M

With 2 seems you can get the MPT to work with the V3M. Look at Mark Venture's site.

The seems work,AND you can always undo what ya did to bring it in. That is if they even know ya did the seem to enable the MPT..... I did that and enabled the vibe and ring. And have shut the phone off and on many times with no bad results. Still trying to figure out the music on the Micro-sd card thing.

Re: V3m to PC transfers (VZW)

Paul just wanted to let you know I bit the bullet and editing a couple seems on my phone. I did the one for multimedia in MPT, and also the one to enable vibe and ring (I missed that since my last phone), and both went very smoothly and no problems to speak of yet. I'll just switch it back if I really need to use the warranty on it.

Good, I am glad that it worked for you. I will probably do it sooner or later to my wife's Pink Razr. If I end up getting the V3m, I will definitely do it to that phone.
