My daughter's Motorola Rival "woke up" one morning with a black screen. Perhaps this is due to a broken flex cable? The phone turns on and off OK (and annoying rings an alarm which we can now not turn off).

The folks at Verizon promptly sold her a new phone with the intention that they would transfer the data from her old to new phone. However, they were unable to complete the data transfer. So, now she has no way to view the data on her old phone or to transfer that data to the new phone (which is an LG Cosmos). She has never synced her phone with a laptop so there is no backup data located anywhere.

I tried linking the Rival to my laptop, but the laptop did not automatically recognize it. There is probably a configuration that I would need to do on the Rival side to complete the connection, but without the ability to view the screen I'm at a loss as how to proceed.

Is there another known way or step by step procedure to remotely retrieve the data from a cell phone with a black screen?

Is there a way to link the Rival phone to view its screen on an external monitor?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
