Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery Saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- For more options open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning OFF the phones connectivity options when unused, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location (GPS) and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable the features
- Open Settings for more options
- Access Location and tap mode > Battery saving
- To turn off Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & networks
- Next, tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the feature OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type and enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Ensure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to disable the app
- Tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
NOTE: Another method for removing an app is to open the apps drawer and then drag & drop the apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top.
Change Sync Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: by changing your apps/accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an existing account
- Disable the desired sync options
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if an update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply available updates. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
