WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all your personal data stored on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted, including media files, ringtones, contacts, apps and downloaded content. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore data on the device.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Launch “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
  5. Tap “Reset phone” and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:

  1. Turn the phone OFF if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” simultaneously
  3. Wait for roughly 5 seconds and release both buttons to gain access to “Boot Mode Selection”
  4. Press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery”
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume up” simultaneously until you gain access to “Android System Recovery”
  7. Once in the Recovery menu, press “volume down” to highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Select whether you wish to delete “Userdata only” or “Userdata + personalized content”
  10. Press “Power” to confirm
  11. Once the reset is complete, “Reboot system now” should be highlighted
  12. Press “Power” to confirm and restart your device

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you have reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “System” and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the updates. NOTE: the update process will require a reboot
