WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all your personal data stored on the phones internal memory will be deleted, including media files, ringtones, contacts, apps and downloaded content. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before you factory reset your phone, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up and restore data on the device.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Backup & reset
- If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
- Tap Reset phone and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: In case your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses as follows:
- Turn the phone OFF if necessary
- Press and hold Power and Volume down simultaneously
- Wait for roughly 5 seconds and release both buttons to gain access to Boot Mode Selection
- Press Volume down to navigate the menu and highlight Recovery
- Press Volume Up to select the highlighted option
- At the No Command screen, press and release Power and Volume up simultaneously until you gain access to Android System Recovery
- Once in the Recovery menu, press volume down to highlight Wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Select whether you wish to delete Userdata only or Userdata + personalized content
- Press Power to confirm
- Once the reset is complete, Reboot system now should be highlighted
- Press Power to confirm and restart your device
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: After you have reset your phone, its recommended to check if new software updates are available for download.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to System and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the updates. NOTE: the update process will require a reboot
