Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and select “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the quick toggle menu down
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen, swipe the quick toggle menu down
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings”
  4. For GPS options, access “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable Hotspot, go back to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” to disable the option

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “preferred network type” and select “2G”

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: by changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account and change its sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes and can potentially affect battery life when not in use. Thus by removing or disabling unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop”
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: Software updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: this process will require at least one reboot)
