Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your applications freezes, crashes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the apps cache and/or data.
WARNING! When you clear an apps data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, such as custom settings, login information, save files, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Open Settings
- Go to Apps and switch to All apps
- Tap the desired app and go to Storage
- Tap Clear cache
- If clearing the app cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK (check the warning above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phones cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the device.
- Turn the phone off
- Press and hold Power and Volume down simultaneously
- Release the buttons at the Boot Mode Selection menu
- Press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Recovery
- Press Volume Up to select the highlighted option
- At the No Command screen press both Power and Volume Up at the same time to gain access to recovery
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down to highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the option
- Highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Remove an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesnt work as intended and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:
- Press and hold Power while on the home screen
- Tap and hold Power off in the power management pop-up
- At the Reboot to Safe Mode prompt tap OK
- Once the phone finishes rebooting, a Safe Mode watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
- To remove an app, first launch Settings
- Then go to Apps
- Switch to All apps and select the desired app
- Tap Uninstall > OK
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would do normally
