Clear App Cache/Data:
NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesnt work as intended, you can try fixing the issues by clearing the app cache and/or data.
WARNING When you clear an apps data, all of your personal data on the phone will be deleted, including login information, save files, custom settings, user profiles etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the apps cache.
- Launch Settings
- Access Apps
- Switch to All apps and select the desired app
- Access Storage and tap Clear cache
- If clearing the app cache didnt help, tap Clear data > OK (check the warning above)
Wipe the Phones Cache Partition:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise doesnt work as intended and youre considering factory resetting it, alternatively you can try fixing the problems by clearing the phones cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset, without losing personal data from the device.
- Turn the phone off
- Press and hold Volume down and Power at the same time
- Release the buttons at the Boot Mode Selection screen
- Press Volume down repeatedly until you highlight Recovery
- Press Volume Up to select the highlighted option
- At the No Command screen, press power and Volume up at the same time to access Android Recovery
- Once in Recovery, press Volume down to highlight Wipe cache partition
- Press Power to select the option, then highlight Reboot system now
- Press Power one last time to confirm
NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didnt help, you can check this thread for instructions on how to factory reset the device instead.
Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:
NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesnt work as intended and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot the device:
- Press and hold Power on the home screen
- Tap and hold power off in the power management pop-up
- When prompted to Reboot to Safe Mode tap OK. After the phone finishes rebooting, a Safe Mode watermark should be shown in the lower area of the home screen
- To uninstall an app, go to Settings > Apps and switch to All apps if necessary
- Select the desired app and tap Uninstall > OK
- To exit Safe Mode, reboot the device as you would do normally
