How-to: Microsoft Lumia 640 XL: Transfer and Set Custom Ringtones & Notification Sounds

Transfer Audio Files from a Mac or Windows PC:

1. Establish a USB connection between the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL and computer
2. On a Mac computer, visit Windows Phone app for Mac | Windows Phone How-to | Windows Phone (United States) to download and install the Windows Phone app for Mac
3. If using a Windows PC, visit Windows Phone app for desktop | Windows Phone (United States) to download and install the Windows Phone app for desktop
4. Once installed, launch the application and use it to transfer contents from your phone to computer and vice versa. Use this method to transfer the audio files you want to use as ringtones or notification sounds

Change the Phone’s Ringtone:

1. Swipe the Start screen to the left
2. From the “apps” list, tap “Settings”
3. Tap “ringtone + sounds” and optionally, enable or disable “Vibrate”
4. Tap “Ringtone” and select the desired ringtone

Change the Ringtone of a Specific Contact:

1. Open the “People” app
2. Select the desired contact and tap “Edit” (icon shaped like a pencil)
3. Tap “+ ringtone”
4. Select the desired ringtone and tap “Save”

Change the Notification Sound:

1. Access the phone’s “Settings” screen
2. Tap “notifications + actions”
3. Select to change the notification settings for “applications”, “quick actions”, and “action center”
