I have this DKU-5 Data Cable for my Nokia 6585 and I tried to upload a ringtone to my phone (it's in a .mid format and all) but it wouldn't let me. I then searched this site and one topic mentioned to download it through the phone internet but I don't seem to be able to go to other sites besides the ones provided by my phone. Is there anyone out there who knows what I can do to get my ringtones? (BTW my service provider is Bell)

Nokia support Scalable Polyphony MIDI, SP-MIDI. In other words, not all mid is supported, you have to convert it to SP-MIDI first. Read the following document from Nokia:

I converted my ringtone into an sp-midi and it still won't upload... is it because Bell won't let me? Is there anyone else who has the Nokia 6585 who has been able to upload ringtones to their phone?

Just want to make sure if the link using DKU-5 is working properly or not. Does other features like contact and picture upload work? Does your PC has IrDA which you can try? If your friend's phone has IrDA, try to see if they can send a ringtone to your phone using IrDA.

I think I am just about ready to give up on trying to download ringtones to my phone...
Nothing I do is working! I used the program from this link http://cellphoneforums.net/showpost....42&postcount=7 to make the ringtone smaller and all that but it still says that it's too big to go on my phone! I then tried to download an application and it said that that was too big for my phone yet it was smaller than the application that is already on my phone so I dunno what's going on...

Have you ever checked the memory status? Is it possible that it is already close to full for ringtone and application?

I've only used about 3% of my memory... so I have lots!

The 6585 could have the same issue as the 3205 for Telus users. The ringtones have to be uploaded to the phone's (not gallery) ringtone folder using software like MobiMB. This is the folder that has all the standard ringtones and isn't visible using Nokia's PC Suite software. Once I converted the midi files, made sure they were 11kb or less, and then used MobiMB to transfer, I now have new ringtones I can use.

Thank you for the tip but I downloaded the free trial of MobiMB and it won't let me do anything and I'm not gonna spend however much it costs just so I can download a couple of ringtones for "free"...
Thank you anyways. I appreciate the help

Well I've been doing some more searching and I guess I should have looked harder on this site cause I found one thread that has a couple of different uploaders but I have to get to the internet on my phone to get my file and my dad just got rid of it a couple of days ago cause I was using it too much so I have to wait for him to put it back on my phone to see if these sites will actually work for me...
So for all other people who are in the same boat as me here's a link:

Re: Nokia 6585 ringtone help
You could try uploading by infrared.. it works for me.. i just crop de midi files to about 9kb max with Anvil Studio and then navigate through my cell folders with nokia's suite softwate..
